The Weld Community Foundation awarded 180 scholarships totaling more than $596,000 to local students at its annual Scholarship Reception. It was the 22ND year that the event was sponsored by FNBO. Since 1997, more than $7.2 million has been awarded in scholarships thanks to the generosity of donors to Weld County students. During the reception, the Foundation took time to honor scholarships celebrating anniversaries this year. Notable scholarship anniversaries include the SasonsFund Scholarship turning 25 years old. SasonsFund was established in honor of Sason Sharify, a dedicated high school math teacher who passed away unexpectedly in 2001. Since its inception, SasonsFund has awarded 61 scholarships totaling $107,500.
One highlight from the evening was a video created by local videographer Tony Garza which chronicled the experiences of the first class of students who received the $100,000 Wilbert R. Wiedeman Scholarship in 2022. Each of the four students gave an update on their college journey and shared the impact that the scholarship had on their lives.
The reception honoring the winners listed below was held May 4th, 2026. In addition to the recipients listed below, another 36 students received a renewal scholarship for which they were awarded in previous years.
