What would a symphony about Weld County sound like?
Woodwinds and strings could depict awe-inspiring open skies and expansive lands. Rhythmic brass could portray its hard-working people and their pioneering spirit. The piece could be a journey through our history: of utopian dreams, struggles through adversity, and the harmony achieved when people work together.
To honor what we all cherish about our county, the Weld Community Foundation commissioned the piece “Seven Symphonic Portraits” by the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra’s composer-in-residence, Dylan Fixmer.
The piece is premiering in October at the Greeley Phil’s first concert of the season. Then, for the Foundation’s Spread the Good Luncheon, Fixmer will be joining us to give a behind the scenes glimpse at how he wrote his piece, sharing selections of the music for us to hear.
