The Weld Community Foundation awarded 165 scholarships totaling more than $570,000 to local students at its annual Scholarship Reception. It was the 21st year that the event was sponsored by FNBO. Since 1997, more than $6.6 million has been awarded in scholarships thanks to the generosity of donors to Weld County students. Two new scholarships were added this year. The Mary Ferdon and Louis Poudre’ Memorial Scholarship, designated to benefit a veteran, was awarded to Ryan Polk, a three-time combat veteran pursuing a degree at the University of Northern Colorado. The Higher Ground Bryce Gardiner Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends to honor Bryce, a University High School graduate who passed away in 2018. The inaugural recipient was Kaleb Brawner, a graduating senior from University High School.
Miranda Ochoa, the Executive Director of the Greeley Dream Team, was the first guest speaker at the event. Prior to this role, she was the Assistant Director of Programs for five years and oversaw two TRIO Federal Talent Search Programs. Ms. Ochoa received the Weld Community Foundation John K. Jerome Family Scholarship in 2023 and 2024.
Anne Fulton was the second speaker. Following her son Judd’s tragic death in 2004, Ms. Fulton and her family and friends established the Judd K. Fulton Scholarship. In Judd’s memory, two scholarships are awarded to two seniors at Northridge High School in Greeley, one scholarship for a student from the other Greeley/Evans School District Six high schools, and two scholarships at Black Hills State University, in Spearfish, South Dakota where Judd played football.
The reception honoring the winners listed below was held May 20th, 2025. In addition to the recipients listed below, another 30 students received a renewal scholarship for which they were awarded in previous years.
